If you’re not a “City Mouse”, no problem! Wilmington’s downtown is filled with blocks and blocks of close-knit neighborhoods where it is entirely possible to own a piece of history. From homes that date back to Colonial times to Victorian dollhouses, and turn of the century beauties, the 230 blocks that comprise much of downtown proper are filled with interesting properties. There are even a few Sears and Roebuck kit homes from the 1920s.
Although living downtown may not be for everyone, those who get it really embrace it. Weekends are an especially enjoyable time for downtowners. Throughout the year there are annual events such as concerts, gallery walks, festivals, and the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market along the Riverwalk. Another plus is the presence of several majestic houses of worship, the main library branch and numerous museums.
